‘Nov 22 poll primary goal’

Reiterating his commitment to the holding of Constituent Assembly (CA) polls on November 22, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala on Saturday requested one and all to cooperate with the government for achieving this primary goal of the state.

Inaugurating an orientation program on CA Election Security organized by the Home Ministry at Armed Police Force Headquarters here in the presence of security officials, civil servants, representatives of political parties and people from different walks of life, Koirala urged all to desist from making any negative comments about the CA poll that would invite political chaos.

"Despite the doubts and suspicions expressed, I am very much excited to hold the CA poll with the help of all the political parties, civil society, the security agencies and the international community and lead the country forward by institutionalizing lasting peace and stability," he said.

He also said that conducting the November 22 poll in a free and fair manner would be an example for the international community.

PM Koirala directed the security forces to act with high morale and in the spirit of maintaining law and order, with the thought that the political parties, civil society, the people and the entire nation are behind them.

Speaking at the program, Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula said that the election was the main objective of Janandolan-2 and it would be fulfilled only after conducting the poll in a successful manner.

He underlined the need for creative support from all sectors for effective mobilization of the security forces in order to establish the supremacy of the people rather than that of any particular party or leader, through the holding of elections in a free and fair manner.

He also informed that the Home Ministry plans to organize such orientation programs in all the five regions and invite the representatives of various political parties, civil society and professional and rights organizations.

During the function Chief Election Commissioner Bhoj Raj Pokharel urged the government to take immediate measures for creating a basic environment for the election.
