Katawal will participate in a conference of army chiefs of Asia pacific countries beginning in Australia from Monday. The two-day conference is being jointly organised by Australia and the United States.
Two weeks earlier, the NA chief had gone to the United Kingdom on a formal visit. Amidst controversies over the British government’s red carpet welcome to General Katawal, the British Embassy in Kathmandu had said the visit was a regular one as the British Defence Ministry had been assisting in a communication project at NA headquarters.
During meetings with the controversial General, UK defence officials had also raised questions on human rights records of the NA.
